Down the Rabbit Hole Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny by Holly Madison

Holly Madison Down the Rabbit Hole

Down the Rabbit Hole Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales
of a Former Playboy Bunny by Holly Madison

The shocking, never-before-told story of the bizarre world inside the legendary Playboy Mansion—and, finally, the secret truth about the man who holds the key—from one of the few people who truly knows: Hef’s former #1 girlfriend and star of The Girls Next Door.

A spontaneous decision at age twenty-one transformed small-town Oregon girl Holly Sue Cullen into Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s #1 girlfriend. But like Alice’s journey into Wonderland, after Holly plunged down the rabbit hole, what seemed like a fairytale life inside the Playboy Mansion—including A-list celebrity parties and her own #1-rated television show for four years—quickly devolved into an oppressive routine of strict rules, manipulation, and battles with ambitious, backstabbing bunnies. Life inside the notorious Mansion wasn’t a dream at all—and quickly became her nightmare. After losing her identity, her sense of self-worth, and her hope for the future, Holly found herself sitting alone in a bathtub contemplating suicide.

But instead of ending her life, Holly chose to take charge of it.

In this shockingly candid and surprisingly moving memoir, this thoughtful and introspective woman opens up about life inside the Mansion, the drugs, the sex, the abuse, the infamous parties, and her real behind-the-scenes life with Bridget, Kendra, and, of course, Mr. Playboy himself.

With great courage, Holly shares the details of her subsequent troubled relationship, landing her own successful television series, and the hard work of healing, including her turn on Dancing with the Stars. A cautionary tale and a celebration of personal empowerment, Down the Rabbit Hole reminds us of the importance of fighting for our dreams—and finding the life we deserve.

I’ve been addicted to reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

The Adventures of Supermom®

You’ve been warned ahead of time.

When I read a book I like it to be a clean slate so to speak so I can imagine the characters just the way I want them.  I want to create it all by myself.  It didn’t happen this way for me because since Starz just aired the first season on TV so the Outlander books you find now have the stars on the cover.

Hotel Living, a novel, written by Ioannis Pappos
An amazing read for summer says ME!

The Adventures of Supermom® With a review that mentions Hotel Living and The Great Gatsby in the same sentence, how could anyone NOT want to read this book?  No need to answer as it was a rhetorical question.

“Ioannis Pappos’ Hotel Living could be The Great Gatsby , reincarnated in a contemporary hell beyond even F. Scott Fitzgerald’s imagination.  It’s harrowing. It’s smart and sexy; it’s funny and tragic. It is, in short, a great and terrible beauty of a book.”

—Michael Cunningham, Pulitzer Prize-winner and New York Times bestselling author of The Snow Queen and The Hours

I already have this novel packed in my bag for vacation!  I cannot wait to be sitting on the beach feeling the ocean tickle my toes as I enjoy a lovely Merlot while reading Hotel Living.  I bet I won’t be able to put it down.

More about Hotel Living.

HOTEL LIVING is a period novel, a love story of the 00s, the decade that some partied like the roaring 1920s and woke up in the 1930s, in the biggest depression. In this semi-autobiographical debut novel that recalls the excess of The Wolf of Wall Street and the searching contemplation of A Single Man, Ioannis Pappos presents a world of unique hotels, bespoke suits, insider trading, fistfights, and fast sex. HOTEL LIVING is a love story set in the recent past and a smart social critique—written by an author who experienced firsthand the heady highs of the world of business in the ’00s, and lived to tell the tale.  As much an incisive commentary as it is riveting storytelling, HOTEL LIVING is filled with surprisingly tender observations about identity, loneliness, and human connection. It is about waking up and, hopefully, growing up.

HOTEL LIVING is released by HarperCollins on June 23rd, 2015.

Might I add he's rather handsome.  That wasn't in his bio but just my personal opinion.  It should be added though.

Women enjoy looking at a handsome man.

Wanna see my handsome son?

The Adventures of Supermom®

This was taken the day before school ended.  Ben and one of his friends wanted to wear suits to mark that school was over.  Perhaps it was just to show the gals what they’d be missing over the summer.

I just know my Ben was the most handsome young man at school that day.  That blond hair and those blue eyes the color of the sky.  He’s a wonderful young man with a fierce momma bear….so ladies beware.

{gentle BUT stern smile glare}

Plus I am a blogger so that should make you be on your best behavior anyway ladies.

Summer vacation is making me CrAzY!!!

The Adventures of Supermom®
This one time at band camp...no one was home and I sat in the hammock.

I have tried to sit down so many times and type up a post because my blog has turned into a bunch of reviews one after another because they are scheduled to post weeks in advance.

Giving me time to write my usual posts about life and the kids or share a recipe.

Until now.

{IE: The kids are home.}

I’ve hear mommy, mom, momma, mommy, mom, mom, poke poke on my shoulder, mommy, mooooommmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, mmmmoooooooooommmmmmmmmmm over one million times.

I’m going to need my own summer vacation to recover from this summer vacation.

It’s just crazy.

Since school has been out there have been appointments, play dates, half day summer camp for a week, company and this house is literally upside down.

Piles here, piles there, everywhere I walk I see a pile or I trip over one.

It’s driving me freaking batty.

So much so that I even braved the girls room to clean out Ninja’s dresser.

{shaking my head}

Yikes, I was very scared.  {ha ha}

I even cleaned up in the basement some.

What is wrong with me?

At first I was depressed, really depressed, that my schedule was being changed.  A person that is depressed and has a boat load on anxiety likes a certain pace and enjoys things going smoothly every day and every day is pretty much planned out.

Then throw in three kids, sometimes four kids, or six kids or seven kids and a baby mixed into my quiet day or reading, or crocheting, or cleaning the house or watching TV or trying to enjoy the silence and BOOM it does things to you.

Weird things.

Makes you get all jumpy.  Makes you want to cry.  Makes you go into a hole that scares you.

It.  Is.  NOT.  FUN.

Makes you not care that you haven’t brushed your teeth or taken a bath.  And it makes you not really care that you are tripping over piles and that the kitchen still has yesterdays dishes on the counter but you are to freaking tired to empty the clean dishes out to put the dirty ones in.  You don’t care that there’s crap {and it is crap} all over the place.

You just shrug, make yourself a cup of coffee {not caring if the coffee cup is dirty or clean} and sit down to binge on Netflix.

Yeah, I was there.

Now I am fighting my way back.  I’m trying to encourage everyone to clean up their stuff.  For once I’d love to walk into a room, any room, and find it the way I left it.  Like no dirty clothes on the bathroom floor, the kitchen counters clean of stuff, the living room pillows on the couch instead of the floor and for once I’d love to not see piles where piles don’t belong.

{They are spreading}

I’m cleaning up.  I’ve found my happy place dammit and it’s going to stay that way.

Today I am going to fold all of the clean laundry and get all of the dirty laundry gathered, I am going to dust!, I’m going to vacuum, and I may even mop, I am going to arrange our house the way it should be.

The way it used to be.

At one point you could eat off of my floors they were so clean.

It.  Will.  Be.  That.  Way.  Again.

{Thanks for reading my lil pep talk to myself.}

I hope that you are enjoying summer!  We’ve been chugging along.  My Mamaw turned 85!!!!  Makes me smile all over.  I saw her yesterday out at the old homestead and it was lovely.  Relatives are in town and we had a nice visit.

Ninja Gurl is getting her tonsils out first of July.  Big pouty face here.  She has no idea how painful this will be but I remember, I remember taking care of my son when he had his out at five years old.  It makes me terribly sad because I know that she will be in a lot of pain and there’s nothing I can really do to help her.  I figured that I would set up camp in our living room for her recovery because it is the coolest room in our house because we have one of those portable air conditioners in there.  Hmm, I wonder if I should get a blow-up mattress for in there because it would be a lot for comfortable than sleeping on that couch???  I will make myself a note about that.

Lots going on.

One thing I do know.

I love spending all this time with my kids and I will be terribly sad when school starts.

Ironic huh?

GermBloc Hand Sanitizer for the Whole Family.
Perfect for vacations, school book bags and just around the house.

Germ Bloc Hand SanitizerI was asked to review GermBloc a few weeks right after strep went around and there were sick ones in the house.  I find great relief that I’m able to use a product after my kids have been sick or after we’ve been to a very public place touching elevator buttons.

A peace of mind.

GourmetGiftBaskets.com has Father's Day taken care of!
{Everyone loves POPCORN!}

It’s time to order something special for those men in your life to celebrate Father’s Day!  Popcorn has come a long way and now you don’t have to go to the movies to enjoy tasty yummy popcorn.  You can visit a popcorn specialty store, like we have down the road, or you can just order dad a tin from GourmetGiftBaskets.com.  I’d order the tin myself since I have ZERO time to shop.

We all know that finding the right gifts for Father's Day is never easy. But it's still important to tackle, as many Dads these days are doing more fathering than ever. (In fact, the Pew Research Center released a survey last year that noted a sharp increase in the number of stay-at-home Dads from 1989 to 2012 -- up about 82 percent, from 1.1 million to 2 million Dads).

Despite this change, many Dads still don't want a lot of money spent on them. They prefer something simple, tasty, and affordable.

Phebe-n-Me {A Very Wearable Review}

We are dog lovers!  Dogs are just awesome.  I want to be the person my dog thinks I am and I want to be as smart as my children think I am since they DO ask me a million questions a day.  Sophie, our Yorkie Poo, is such a big part of our life.  An awesome part of our life.

There’s nothing like the love of a dog.  Right?

Phebe-n-MeI know that my day wouldn’t be complete if Sophie didn’t curl up in my lap while I crochet or while I am reading and I know my night wouldn’t be complete without her curling up in the nook of my arm when it’s time for bed.

I was so happy when I opened an amazing box of goodies from Phebe-n-Me and so was Sophie because Lorena added some special dog treats!  Sophie was in hog heaven, or dog heaven as they say.

My girls love their shirts and slept in them that night!  I wore my tee the very next day and I received so many compliments!  These one of a kind shirts relate to everyone that has a pet or has had a pet in their lifetime.  {love}

I was so depressed yesterday.
{Anxiety kicks my ass on a daily basis.}

Yesterday I was so depressed!  Everything made me terribly sad and if I wasn’t crying then I wanted to cry.  Perhaps it was lack of sleep because I had been up since 2:30 am when I woke up with a migraine and had to take meds.  It was awful.

Then I had to run around all day.  Target: Bought a pool for girls to play in outside.  Sunscreen for the mentioned pool and vacation later in the summer.  We ALL know how I am when it comes to sunscreen.  Remember I go through a gallon a day while at the beach on vacation.

{Perhaps I will require MORE now that I think about it.}

Get my son from school.

Cook hot dawgs for friends for dinner then Ninja Gurl went on a sleepover.

Yeah, I was a bumbling mess.

It could have also been that my daughter turned 21 too.  I doubt it but you never know.  All that and her being a mother herself.  Then my Mamaw not feeling well.  There is so much on me right now.

I’m feeling better though so that counts for something right?

My Reading Buddy 2012
Caught reading Mockingjay in 2012.
I did finish reading Mockingjay Part 1 where the movie stopped.  It was so touching and there were things I had totally forgotten about.  I even read the very ending twice, when they come home and all.  It really did make me think about the whole book series again.  Ben and me are going to watch the last movie in theaters when it comes out in November fo sho.

If it’s still playing in your area and you can see it before it gets gone then you MUST GO SEE The Age of Adaline with Blake Lively!  Oh em gee.  That’s actually a movie I’d own the DVD of and that’s rare for me.  I’d gladly add it to my collection with The Great Gatsby, Cloud Atlas and Love Actually.  Yeah, I don’t buy DVDs. I could name a few more I’d actually own if I was inclined to buy them.  Nahhh, I just don’t have to own things like that.  {shrug}  I’m odd I guess.

What’s the one movie that you can watch over and over and over and over again?

Happy Birthday to my Daughter Hannah today.
21 years ago today she changed my life for forever.

Actually it would be 21 years and 9 months ago she changed my life for forever.

{but who’s counting?}

I just want to wish my daughter the best birthday ever and I hope all her birthday wishes come true.

The Adventures of Supermom

I am so very proud of you.

Xo, G Wine is PERFECT for moms {and dads} especially now that school is out. A Review you will love to drink.

Xo, G WineI am the only wine drinker in the house so I shy away from opening a bottle of wine unless I am having company because I don’t want a nice bottle to go to waste.  I just poured out half a bottle of bubbly down the sink the other day with a frown.

Then something amazing happened!!

I was sent two bottles of Xo, G Wine to try!!!  Individual cups!!  Oh my goodness!!!  I can drink wine at home now without having company!  I can enjoy a glass while secretly hiding from my kids reading a book!

Now that school is out I will be enjoying lots of mommy time with Xo, G Wine!

Thank you Giuliana Rancic!!!  All moms are bowing down to you.

After a crazy busy couple of weeks with birthdays and a wedding anniversary and school out for the summer...I thought I would lock the kids outside so I could type up a quick post.

After watching the Mockingjay Part 1 movie I dusted off my book to re-read it.  Well I started the book where the part 1 movie ended.  All about Peeta and Katniss.  You know, who the whole series is about.  I loved this series!  My friend Twilight Junkie, AKA Marian, is the one who got me hooked.

Celadon Road {A Review}
Michelle of The Adventures of Supermom®‎
LOVES Celadon Road!

Celadon RoadCeladon Road where have you been my whole life?  When I was asked to review some of their products I took a moment to look around to see what would suit my needs the best.  There were so many great things to choose from!!  I sort of left it in their hands to send me a few things, I told them I still haven’t found facial products that I like, nor a deodorant and that I loved perfume and lip balm.

Then I opened this box full of amazing products.  Celadon Road was so gracious!!

I have nothing but amazing praise for this brand!  I even emailed them basically telling them the same thing.  I used their Age Defying Toner and Age Defying Moisturizer only TWICE and I could tell a difference in my pores.  The spray on toner is genius!!!  Just genius!!!  I spritz two or three sprays on my face and it absorbs instantly!  I’ve noticed with age my pores are more visible and it has been bothering me so when I could tell a difference in only two uses I was in shock.

And extremely happy!!  Very extremely happy!

Deodorant!  Let’s talk about smelling good and you can even sniff your pits if you want.  Ever since having children it has been difficult to find a deodorant that works.  I’ve been using those clinical strength brands and they still didn’t work!  Then I tried Celadon Coconut Deodorant.  I keep smelling myself and I smell like I’m resting on a sandy beach.

Even after walking on a hot sweaty day I DO NOT STINK.  I still cannot believe an organic deodorant with essential oils can work so amazing.

I am hooked!  I want to try every single product that they sell!!

Celadon Road

I've got my summer reading!!!

The Secrets We Keep By: Stephanie Butland

The Secrets We KeepA tragic accident, a broken heart, and a marriage drowning in secrets...

Mike always walks the dog in the evening while Elizabeth relaxes in the bathtub—but one night he doesn’t come back. Mike has drowned while saving a teenage girl named Kate, his dog standing on the bank barking frantically as the police pull his body from the water.

But despite her husband being lauded as a hero, Elizabeth can’t wrap her mind around the fact that Mike is gone—and Kate won’t reveal the details of what really happened that night.

Elizabeth finds herself facing the unfathomable possibility that she may not have known her husband at all. Does she really want to know the truth? Or will the weight of Mike’s secrets pull her under?

The Girl Who Wrote in Silk By: Kelli Estes

The Girl Who Wrote in SilkThe smallest items can hold centuries of secrets...

Inara Erickson is exploring her deceased aunt’s island estate when she finds an elaborately stitched piece of fabric hidden in the house. As she peels back layer upon layer of the secrets it holds, Inara’s life becomes interwoven with that of Mei Lein, a young Chinese girl mysteriously driven from her home a century before. Through the stories Mei Lein tells in silk, Inara uncovers a tragic truth that will shake her family to its core — and force her to make an impossible choice.

Inspired by true events, Kelli Estes’s brilliant and atmospheric debut serves as a poignant tale of two women determined to do the right thing, and the power of our own stories.

The Adventures of Supermom® Loves READING!!
CIRCUS MIRANDUS by Cassie Beasley

The Adventures of Supermom®

**Encourage them to read.**

I’ve already told my girls that they will be reading this summer and it will not all be filled with computers and Netflix.  I’ve already given Lovely O her first book to start on.

Circus MirandusCIRCUS MIRANDUS by Cassie Beasley

Micah Tuttle believes in magic, even though his awful Great-Aunt Gertrudis doesn’t approve. Micah believes in the stories his dying Grandpa Ephraim tells him of the magical Circus Mirandus: the invisible tiger guarding the gates, the beautiful flying birdwoman, and the magician more powerful than any other—the Man Who Bends Light. Finally, Grandpa Ephraim offers proof. The Circus is real—and the Lightbender owes Ephraim a miracle. With his friend Jenny Mendoza in tow, Micah sets out to find the Circus and the man he believes will save his grandfather. The only problem is, the Lightbender doesn't want to keep his promise. And now it's up to Micah to get the miracle he came for.

The books sounds amazing and I want to read it when she is finished.

About the author:

CASSIE BEASLEY is from rural Georgia, where, when she's not writing, she helps out on the family pecan farm. She earned her MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. CIRCUS MIRANDUS is her first novel.

The 2015 Library of Congress National Book Festival
{I'd LOVE to attend this!}

The Adventures of Supermom®Almost 100 of the nation’s best writers, poets and illustrators have already committed to appear at the 2015 Library of Congress National Book Festival, which will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

More information is available on the National Book Festival website. Additional authors will be announced in the coming weeks.

The festival will mark its 15th anniversary since its establishment in 2001 and will also honor the Library’s spiritual founder, Thomas Jefferson, whose personal library covering all subjects guides the universal collecting policies of today’s Library of Congress. Jefferson sold his books to the Library of Congress in 1815, after a fire destroyed the original Library collections during the War of 1812. The theme of this year’s festival is "I cannot live without books," a famous statement by Jefferson.

Among the luminaries participating this year will be historians Walter Isaacson, David McCullough and Rick Atkinson; New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof; Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan; journalist Tom Brokaw; novelists Louise Erdrich, Jane Smiley and Ha Jin; graphic novelist Stephan Pastis; NPR’s Cokie Roberts; local restaurateur Nora Pouillon; mystery writers David Baldacci and Lisa Scottoline; poets Naomi Shihab Nye and Marilyn Chin; young people’s writers Kwame Alexander, Jon Scieszka and Sonia Manzano; and two major voices on global environment issues Jeffrey D. Sachs and E.O. Wilson. Also on the schedule will be special presentations honoring America’s veterans, world religions and Thomas Jefferson’s library, which is still on view in the Library building named after him on Capitol Hill.

They're Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack #TT
{Throwback Thursday}

Pokemon Cards are everywhere!

Kids are carrying them in special cases or just a stack with a rubber band wrapped around them.  They are battling and then crying for more cards.

Waaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh, we want more Pokemon cards.

Life’s hard, deal with it.  I’m not buying those cards until you remember the manners you’ve been taught and REMEMBER how to clean up for yourself AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS I will agree to buy you a SMALL pack at the end of the month.

Like the CHEAPEST pack I can find at the drug store down the road.

That’s how I buy the cards.

Needless to say I haven’t really had to buy anymore.

I’m not sure what that says about me as a parent or what it says about the girls.

{gentle smile}

I remember when my son had Pokemon cards and then there were Yu-Gi-Oh cards.  A spinoff collect a card TV show like Pokemon.

Ninja Gurl loves her Pokemon cards and she pretty much has then with her 24-7.  One day she came with me to physical therapy and got into a deep discussion about Pokemon with Chris my physical therapist.  {In all honesty I think Ninja Gurl has a crush on him because he teases her so.}  Chris asked Ninja if she had her own Pokemon card and then he started calling her PrinnJa.  Because she is a princess and totally a NINJA!

So what’s a devoted mom to do?

She makes her PrinnJa her very own Pokemon card.

It started with me drawing a picture on what I thought she would look like.

{I drew this one night in bed on a post-it.}
