Craft Coffee {DNA Project}
Perfect for Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, anniversarys and "just because".

Craft CoffeeLooking for the best coffee you've ever had?  What if it's NOT the one you currently drink but you just don't know it yet?  Have you ever wanted your morning coffee so bad only to remember that you are out AND that you forgot to stop by the store the day before to buy more?  These questions all have one answer and it's the SAME answer.

Craft Coffee's Coffee DNA.

Craft Coffee will ask you a few quick questions to decide what coffee to send you.  {Very easy questions.}  Then you get an assortment of coffee delivered right to your door.  RIGHT TO YOUR DOOR!  {No more wearing your pajamas into the store!  Unless you really wanna.}  Then if you have a FAVORITE from your box – you can order more of it.

I really enjoyed checking out the three different coffees that were mailed right to my house.  Not only can I try three different coffees but I'm expanding my knowledge.  Not ALL coffee is the SAME.  Personally I think this would be awesome for anyone who loves their coffee for ANY occasion!  The two holidays that come to mind first are Mother's Day {May 10} and Father's Day {June 21} because I am a parent and I live off of coffee.

Shari Dixon Jewelry is PERFECT for Mother's Day!
{Don't forget that Mother's Day is May 10, 2015!}

The Adventures of Supermom®

Shari Dixon JewelrySay “Happy Mother’s Day” with Shari Dixon’s one-of-a-kind jewelry line

It’s time to think outside the assorted chocolate-filled box when it comes to finding the perfect Mother’s Day gift, and designer Shari Dixon has made that quest just a little simpler with her one-of-a-kind jewelry line.

Featuring American-made necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets, Dixon’s line of nature-inspired jewelry comes in bright, bold colors.  If you’re searching for matching pieces, Shari Dixon offers both adjustable and fixed-length pendants with matching cuffs, bracelets and earrings. The pieces range in price to allow something for every budget.

Each piece contains natural elements like petals and starfish.  Colors range from lavish purples and deep turquoise to softer tones like robin’s egg blue and sage.  A high-gloss resin helps ensure that each statement piece not only look polished, but lasts for generation after generation (unlike that macaroni necklace you made your mother in elementary school).

Find the perfect Mother’s Day gift from Shari Dixon at one of the many retailers across the United States. For a unique and beautiful way to say "I love you" with high-quality, hand-made designs, Shari Dixon hits the mark.

I love it when I am able to tell you about something that's made locally {in Tennessee} so you can check them out for yourself!  When I was sent an email about Shari Dixon Jewelry I was tickled pink!  I've always loved pressing flowers as a little girl and now I enjoy pressing flowers and leaves with my little girls.  I'd never even thought about making our treasures into jewelry, I guess because I mostly play with yarn.

Kandoo's Bubble Bath {A Bubbly Review}

Kandoo Bubbles BathHow do you get the kids to take a bath?  That is the sticky smelly question.  As the parent to four children that are all over the age spectrum I have tried many WAYS to get them in the tub.

I still have this argument with the girls every single week.  {shaking my head}  It only gets worse when I have to wash their hair.

One of the sure ways to get them in the tub is to offer a sudsy bubble bath after messy dirty playing outside in mud puddles.  Well, okay, it works 90 % of the time.  The other 10% makes you just want to hose them off with the garden hose so they will stop whining about having to take a bath.

Kandoo now has bubble bath for our kids!  YAY!  More about Simply Suds.

Getting dirty is a childhood right; for parents it is their job to clean up the aftermath. From cute hooded towels, to rubber duckies parents spend a lot of time trying to encourage their kids to bathe. There seems to be two sides to the spectrum, little ones who love bath time and are part fish or, a child that has to be pleaded with to bathe. Either way Kandoo has created Simply Suds, bubbles that make bath time more fun for either end of the spectrum.

Kandoo Bubbles BathBubble Bath

Sulfate-Free Bubble Bath Specially formulated for kids with sensitive skin. Does not contain sulfates, parabens, phthalates or other harsh chemicals.

Thank you Kandoo for making bath time easier for this house!

The Fault in our Stars

The Adventures of Supermom®

I had a plan!!!  To read Out of Africa again!

I even gave my beastie grit her own copy so we could read together...

We spent the day Friday downtown shopping and she had be buy a book that she had recently finished and that she had loved.

So I did.

rove’s Bento Lunch Box {A Review}
The Superkids LOVE their rove Bento Box.

The Adventures of Supermom®Does it make me a bad parent when I admit that I DETEST packing lunch for my girls??  The school they attend does not provide lunches so theirs has to be packed.  {It's a small private Montessori School.}  I've been packing lunches for almost five years now and it's a struggle with finding the right containers?, the right bags?, the right food?, and a way to keep it from getting boring.

It's very difficult IMHO to do this every day.

During this time I've tried all sorts of containers trying to find the right size and one that wouldn't leak.  I have washed their lunchbox several times due to a container leaking.  I have even resorted to using plastic bags for food and that makes me feel all guilty for the environment.

Yes it was easier for me at a time but was that worth the plastic baggie guilt?

{no laughing}

I did just say plastic baggie guilt.

The last time I bought some bento type containers at the organic grocery store I was very disappointed because the lids didn't fit properly and they leaked and when you did get the lid on it was terribly hard to get the lid off and I kept picturing one of the girls throwing food all over the place while just trying to take the lid off.  So I quit using them.

Such a waste.

Then I was sent an email about reviewing the 7 piece laptop iced Bento Lunch Box by rove® and I jumped at the chance.  I even asked for TWO!

Dial Kids Foaming Hand Wash and Dial Baby Body + Hair Wash {A Giveaway}

DialWash your hands!!!

How many times a day do you say this to your children?

Have you washed your hands??

Go wash your hands!

Let me see your hands!

It's very important for our children to know how important it is for them to wash their hands because it helps stop the spreading of germs.  Dial Kids Foaming Hand Wash makes your kids WANT to wash their hands.  It's super easy to use, it's fun to play with the foam, it smells watermonly-awesome and it cleans your hands.  Moms all around are very happy about this.

Awesome tip from Dial!

How you wash your hands is as important as what you use to clean them.

Lather vigorously for at least 20 seconds.  Which is just about the same amount of time to sing one of these classics:

"Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"
"Happy Birthday"
or just recite your ABCs.

The Superkids love this foaming hand wash!

Dial® Kids Watery Melon Foaming Hand Wash
Makes hand washing fun for all ages! Hypoallergenic, no artificial dyes, no parabens, pH balanced and gentle on kids’ skin!

Fired Up! Creative Lounge in Asheville, NC
Planning the perfect birthday party!

Fired Up! Creative LoungeNinja Gurl recently turned 7 and she wanted a luau. A LUAU! How in the word did a six year old know about a luau in the first place? I went to planning the perfect birthday party for her! I already knew where I wanted to have the party.

Fired Up! Creative Lounge in downtown Asheville.

Linda Chester, owner of Fired Up! Creative Lounge
Michelle Lee, owner of The Adventures of Supermom®

We love Fired Up!. It's the perfect place for children and adults. Linda was very helpful and sent me lots of pictures of bisque pieces the kids could paint at the party making it super easy for me to pick one. Since it was going to be a luau I picked a fish and I thought it would be the perfect piece for boys and girls to paint.

The party was a huge success and all of her friends had a really amazing time. The best part {for me} was watching Ninja Gurl demonstrate how to hula dance!

I'm so ready to garden this year.

The Adventures of Supermom®Monday I hit the hardware store and bought three hanging baskets, a small plant for the porch and some pine straw so I worked a tiny bit outside.  When my back started aching I called it quits.  Tomorrow I will throw down some grass seed and then Superdad can put straw on it.  I'm loving working on our garden and looking forward to lots of great things this summer.

I'd have bought plants to plant outside too BUT my Mamaw has always told me not to plant until after Mother's Day and in all my years she has been correct.  It's something that her mother taught her as well.  So, I can count on the weather being all okay after Mother's Day to plant.  So if Superdad needs a couple ideas for Mother's day WHICH is May 10th then I'd like a tray of pretty orange marigolds, a couple gerbera daisies {he knows the color}, and pansies or vinca.  Something like that.  Plus the girls will like helping pick out flowers for mommy's special day.  Then THEY can help plant the flowers so my back doesn't ache.  {smiling}  Honey if you can find me a streptocarpus saxorum I would dance a jig for you.  I had one of these many many many years ago and LOVED it.

The flowers would be a lot cheaper than patio furniture that is comfy enough for me to sit in.  The stuff we have now was brought over by my great aunt a year or two ago and it's so uncomfy that I cannot even sit in it with my back.  {insert frown here}

Ninja Gurl celebrated her birthday Saturday with her friends downtown and it was pretty awesome.  She wanted a luau so I threw her the best luau ever!  {More about this later this week.}

Then Monday morning I went to school for her special birthday circle and for that I made an adorable slide show to show and I took cheese popcorn and apple juice for the kids to enjoy.

It was a lovely time.  I'm so glad that she enjoyed it because I bet that was her last birthday circle because she will be older and will not want her old mom embarrassing her at school with BABY PICTURES.

Know what I mean?

Will you garden this year?  What will you plant?

Sunday Dinner in the South
Sunday Dinner in the South
Recipes to Keep Them Coming Back for More
By Tammy Algood
I'm from western North Carolina.  I grew up eating southern food.  Now I prepare southern food for my family.  I love pinto beans cooked in pork stock that had been prepared the day before {the bone was in the freezer from some special occasion - probably Thanksgiving} with cornbread and buttermilk.  I know that you don't always have to cook meat at dinner.  Green beans, fried taters, biscuits with a couple slices of mater and iced sweet tea includes EVERYTHING in the food groups.

Southerners LOVE their sweets.  A meal isn't complete unless you have a piece of homemade pound cake {from a recipe passed down generations} with some hot cawfee.

When I received this cookbook in the mail I was excited because this cookin' is the only way of cookin' I know how to do.  Being from North Carolina grits are very important and can be eatin' for any meal of the day.  Mix grits with collards and some pork and you're in “hog heaven” so that's how I picked a recipe from the book to share with you.  Two of my favorite things in one dish.  Mmmm mmmm.

I hope you enjoy!!!  You're going to love this cookbook and enjoy having it in your kitchen.

What are you reading?

The Adventures of Supermom®

I am a reader and I have been reading for as long as I can remember.  I would and still do {almost} read anything I can get my hands on.  Of course when I'm not watching Netflix or crocheting.  I am still trying to master reading while crocheting.  It's a bit complicated.  If you crochet then you know what I'm talking about.

I recently started reading Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen which is a pen name belonging to Karen Blixen {FYI}.  I recruited my best friend {AKA Beastie Grits} to read with me because......I gave her a copy for her birthday.

Myra weirdest dream last night!! We were our ages now but having a sleepover at your parent's house. We were planning to cruise Patton and meet up with Taylor Swift for her singing gig. She was a personal friend of ours. I was waiting for my Mamaw to bring me over. I remembered calling and your mom answering. Ha ha.

Three months ago we were introduced. I loved you before you were born and as each day passes I love you more. I thank God every day that he gave you to us. You have blessed our lives more than I could think possible.
I love you,

My son looks so handsome after a haircut.

Once a Ninja, always a Ninja.
{Just a Ninja with an electric guitar.}

The Adventures of Supermom®Seven years ago I was a nervous wreck waiting for my planned tax day cesarean at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.  A total wreck.  We were going to meet our daughter for the very first time, hear her cry, feel the warmth of her body, count her fingers and count her toes, see who she looks like and we were ready for her to be in our arms.

At 7:47 am Ninja Gurl was born weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces and she was a beautiful healthy baby girl.  A beautiful Ninja Gurl.

That's the only way to describe her, she has mad ninja skillz all the while wearing a pink dress with her pierced ears.  That's our girl.  It has been a pleasure watching her grow and see the world and it's been a total pleasure being her mom.  She's the kind of girl who says what's on her mind yet she's kind and compassionate towards others. {except her sister}

* Her favorite color is orange.

* She loves maple yogurt.

* She knows how to make a sling shot with a stick found on a walk and a hairband from around her wrist.  I know this because there's one on the front porch.

* I just know that Ninja Gurl could kick my butt in Scrabble if she just knew how to spell ALL the words that are in her vocabulary.  WORD!

Know what I mean?

Our sweet seven year old is in first grade and loves to read, loves to color and draw amazing art on paper, she loves to play MineCraft and Disney Infinity, build with blocks, crochet, knit and she loves to play on her brand new guitar.  {And she loves to torture her sister O BUT O loves to torture her back so it's all fair in love and war.}  Up until her birthday she was playing on a toy guitar that Santa brought a couple of years back so this year for her birthday she got her very own electric guitar and amp that's just her size and she's already playing on it and it's really really good.

For someone who has never played on a real guitar she is doing amazing and is learning chords and can play music from sound.  In time she will learn to read music and create all on her own.

We are very excited for Ninja Gurl.

Happy Birthday Ninja Gurl!  I hope you had the best 7th birthday ever!

Preservation Society Home Preserves

Preservation Society Home PreservesPreservation Society Home Preserves
By: Camilla Wynne

These are not your grandmother’s preserves, but we’re certain she would approve!

Preservation Society is a very particular preserves company. And while its founder, Camilla Wynne, may not always make pristine preserves from organic heirloom produce, she does make things filled with imagination and heart.

Camilla’s mandate at Preservation Society is to use as much local produce as possible. It may seem like a nice idea to make the perfect strawberry jam, but that’s not what she does, nor is it the type of recipe you’ll find in this book. Instead, her recipes are amusing, creative and simply mouth-watering.

She has worked with some of the top chefs, and this experience is reflected in her recipes. They don’t use complicated techniques or hard-to- find ingredients, but with a combination of classic ideas and surprise twists, they manage to be utterly unique creations. Besides the sumptuous jams, jellies and marmalades, you’ll also find recipes for syrups, marinades, chutneys and conserves, as well as 18 recipes that use the original preserves.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll be comfortable making these recipes, which feature reliable, easy-to-follow, up-to-date preserving instructions and information.

**I was not paid to post this.  I was sent a free copy of the book.**

My Mom saw the President of the United States of America on my birthday and didn't even bring me back a t-shirt.

The Adventures of Supermom®If my Ninja Gurl had a Facebook account that would have been her recent status for the day.

She did in fact turn 7 years old and I did in fact see the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, for a town hall meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I'm in complete denial that President Obama was just merely feet away from me.  It was sort of like a dream, a dream that felt like it lasted mere minutes.  A dream that started on Monday when I read the invitation and ended when the town hall meeting was over...yesterday afternoon {Wednesday}.

Just like that.

President Obama was in Charlotte to talk about equal pay for women, education for our children, assistance to those who need it and so much more.
"When women succeed here in America, the whole country succeeds." -President Barack Obama

Amazing huh?

I was honored to be included in this town hall meeting and I am still tickled that I was in the same room as The President of the United States of America.  I was able to meet some really nice women and this is a moment that we will always remember.

Sick Kid at Home

I'm sitting in bed with my soon to be seven year old beside me as she missed school today because she doesn't feel well.  She was puny yesterday too so I guess she isn't faking it like she does most days.  Lovely O also complained of a sore throat but she went to school anyway.  Dedication there.  I might get a call to collect her early.  We shall see.

I'm sort on anxious because the house is a mess and DESPERATELY needs to be vacuumed and Lovely O informed me this morning that she has no clean pants!  Really!?!  I may sneak downstairs to gently throw some clothes in the washer.  I must do it GENTLY as my physical therapist Chris and Superdad will fuss at me because it's a big NO NO for me.

I am not supposed to BEND or TWIST!!!  How can a busy mom like me not BEND or TWIST?  {insert hysterical laughing here}

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

So I have to wipe my feet off to get in my warm snuggly bed and that bothers me.  Damn shoes in the house and damn rabbit making a mess around her cage.  She is about to be rabbit stew if she keeps irking me and most of all Superdad.  She keeps digging ALL night for some strange reason {could be pregnant with baby bunnies} and it's really making my Superdad upset.  I really need to re-home her as I am not able to clean her cage and take care of things like I used to do for her.  Nodding.  I just don't think I can do this anymore.  It hurts me physically.  And emotionally.

Home From Physical Therapy {Monday, April, 13, 2015}
Town Hall meeting with President Barack Obama in Charlotte, North Carolina

Today was a rainy Monday and when I started the day I only had REST on my mind because I knew that I would start the day running {figure of speech} because I had physical therapy at 9am then my plan was to do NOTHING after that.  After feeding my girls, packing their lunches and driving them to school I headed to physical therapy.  I went in all happy and giggly and happy but then I left all sad with tears in my eyes, not because anything wrong happened to me but because of the physical therapy that was done for me.  It left me in pain.

I came home to rest my sore body on some ice.

{Ice ice baby...singing.}

Sitting on my comfy couch with coffee and laptop watching Season 2 of Boss I saw an email that read,

“Time Sensitive - please read! Special SheKnows/BlogHer opportunity - plus a quick survey”.

I read the email then realized it was on Ninja Gurl's birthday and wouldn't be able to attend.  Bummer.  Plus I wasn't sure if my back could handle the drive to Charlotte.

We emailed back and forth, then I changed my mind because the kids always open their presents the morning before school and I was worried that I would disappoint my daughter.  {Calling her on Skype just wasn't a birthday memory I wanted her to have of me.}

Then I realized that a very important figure was going to be at this “Time Sensitive” event that I was being invited too!

SheKnows Media, the number-one women’s lifestyle digital media company with 81.5 million unique visitors per month and 162 million social media fans and followers, today announced that it will facilitate a special Town Hall meeting with President Barack Obama in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tax Day, April 15, to discuss the earning and economic prospects of American women in the workforce – and by extension, their families.

Positive Energy®the "Juice with a Boost"
{A delicious review.}
Naturally Caffeinated Juice Changes the Energy Market for Good

Positive Energy®{This review was written in the perspective of a coffee drinker.}  I'm a coffee lover!  So warm and comforting and the liquid gold that wakes us up in the morning.  With the hot weather heading our way some coffee drinkers will switch over to iced coffee or iced lattes to cool them down on a hot day.  Personally I've never liked cold coffee drinks.  There's just something about a hot cup of coffee that warms the soul.

Positive Energy®

Then I was introduced to Positive Energy®!!  They emailed asking if I would try their juices and lemonade and I said “I'm in!”.  These juices and lemonades are DELICIOUS!  Each 10 ounce bottle is equivalent to one large cup of coffee – caffeine wise.  When it's the afternoon and the kids have worn me down as the sweat drips off of me because of the heat I can now grab a COLD Positive Energy® Peach-Mango Lemonade from the fridge to cool me down and give me the pep that I need.

I will be keeping these little gems in the fridge to enjoy!
