Feel your boobies for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

With it being Breast Cancer Awareness Month I thought it would a good time to talk about coming up with a plan to feel your boobies once a month because early detection is a must, because finding a lump in the early stages can be a big advantage!

I admit that I am horrible at doing a monthly breast exam even though my doctor fussed at me for not performing one every month at my age.  She even gave me a hang tag where I can pop out the months so it makes keeping track a lot easier.  *Hanging Head*  I still don't use the card or perform the monthly exams.....

With the help of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. I've made a plan!

An Early Detection Plan enables you to be proactive about your health by reminding you to perform routine breast self-exams and to schedule clinical breast exams and mammograms, depending on your age and health history. Through the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Early Detection Plan, you can select the reminder options that work best for you, including email alerts, calendar reminders, text messages or downloading a PDF of your plan.

By creating and following an Early Detection Plan, you will increase your chances of detecting breast cancer in its early stages. According to the National Cancer Institute,

    * One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
    * Over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
    * When breast cancer is detected early (localized stage), the 5-year survival rate is 98%.
    * Over 30% of women are diagnosed after breast cancer has spread beyond the localized stage.

So, instead of having a hang tag that I ignore anyway I can set up a plan with text messages and emails to remind me it's time for my self breast exam.  I love technology these days!

Breast cancer awareness is really important to me since my grandmother is a survivor and here's a recent post I wrote in dedication to her.

So, go make a plan to self examine yours breasts once a month because it's really important!  Early detection is very important.  I promise to examine my breasts every month now!

**I wasn't encouraged or paid to post this.  I just think it's very important to make women aware of how important it is so self examine their breasts once a month!**
