The Obituary:

Johnie Dillard Ramey, 98, of Asheville, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at his residence.

The son of the late Johnie and Tinie Henson Ramey, Mr. Ramey came to Buncombe Co. over 50 years ago from Gum Log, GA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Ramey; daughter, Hansel Roberts; sons, J.D. and Ollie Ramey; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Ramey retired from Mills Manufacturing, and worked for Winn-Dixie grocery store into his 80s. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed talking with people.

He is survived by his daughter, Hester and son-in-law, Ronnie Boone, of the home, who was his caregivers for many years, and daughter, Bennie Ramsey, of Asheville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

His family gives special thanks to Hospice staff for their great care.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Ellis officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery, in Gum Log, GA.

His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren - He had a good life. He be will be very missed.

Wow! That was a fantastic life he lead. I was able to meet my great-grandfather once, I am very greatful that he was able to meet my eldest daughter. She was a about 6 months old, but he knew she was part of the family. He said quite loudly "Hot Da!n, thats a Hay". I was never able to meet my great grandmother ( I heard she was a charcter too). I will take that memory of my great-grandfather with me always. I am happy for you, that you are able to have great memories too. God Bless and my family's prayers are with you.
